A NEW ERA AT HOWGILL
With Jo and Rich swapping out rabbits for roo’s and roasts for the barbie, a new and exciting opportunity has presented itself for George and me: managing Howgill! You may have spotted us over the last few years doing all things warden at our sister site, Catgill Farm—everything from restroom refreshing to pizza paddling. A Bit About Us We’re Alex and Georgina, joined by our two collies, Poppy and Jack. After leaving uni, neither of us managed to stay put for more than 12 months at a time. From whale surveys in the Canaries to pandemic life in Wales, and even a stint of van life in the sunny Highlands of Scotland, we eventually landed in Bolton Abbey.
The Dales are an incredible spot, and we’ve been lucky enough to call Catgill home for the last three years. We’re both huge fans of all things nature and the great outdoors, so settling just 10 minutes down the road feels like fate. This little corner of the National Park suits us down to the ground, and we’re thrilled to start making and sharing new memories with all the familiar and fresh faces we’ll be welcoming during our time here. A New Chapter at Howgill With this new journey at Howgill comes a fresh set of challenges: learning the ropes of new pitches and layouts, navigating the maze of old and new water pipes, and tackling a key difference between sites—motorhomes and caravans! Add in the fancy timber lodges, and it’s safe to say we’ve got our hands full for this first season.
We can only aspire to continue the amazing work Jo and Rich have done here over the last few years. They’ve set the bar incredibly high with their dedication and passion, and we couldn’t have asked for a better pair to pass us the torch. Our goal? To keep their award-winning momentum going while adding our own little flair along the way. We’d like to take this moment to say a heartfelt thank you to Cat and Oliver for trusting us with this incredible opportunity, we will miss being neighbours with you and, lets be honest, the 3 pups and Harper most of all!
Speaking of Flair… As we mentioned, we’re big nature lovers, so our first “executive decision” as Howgill managers? Bird feeders—bird feeders everywhere! We’re spending these crucial first weeks getting to grips with the admin side of things, but we also wanted to make a small start in creating a warm welcome not just for our guests, but for the local wildlife too. By setting up bird feeders around the site, we hope to attract a colorful array of feathered friends for everyone to enjoy—whether you’re a keen birdwatcher or just someone who loves hearing their cheerful chirps while enjoying a morning cuppa.
It’s a small touch, but it reflects our commitment to blending nature and comfort for all who visit. Join the Conversation We’d love to hear from you! Share your happy Howgill or Catgill memories with us on our socials, and let us know what you’d love to see or do during your next visit to our new home. We can’t wait to welcome you, whether you’re pitching a tent, parking a caravan, or just popping by to soak up the scenery. Your new campsite managers, Alex, George, Poppy & Jack
