General & Booking

What are your opening times?

The timber lodges are open throughout the year, including Christmas and New Year. The campsite is open from the beginning of April to the end of October.

The booking system isn’t showing me the unit I am looking for what should I do?

Please ensure that you have entered the correct dates for arrival and departure and that you have entered the minimum number of nights for your chosen dates. Our lodges have a minimum 2 night stay with a minimum 3 night stay on bank and school holiday weekends. Camping pitches have a minimum 2 night stay at weekends with a minimum 3 night stay on school and bank holiday weekends.

Do I need to pay a deposit to secure my booking?

Yes, we require a 50% deposit when you make your booking and the remaining balance is due 60 days before your arrival. For bookings made within 60 days, we will require full payment.

What if I want to add extras to my booking after I have booked?

We will be happy to add any extras to your booking please just give us a call on 01756 720655 and we will organise everything for you. Please note all extras must be ordered at least 72 hours in advance of your stay so that we can make sure they are here for your arrival.

What should I do if I need to cancel my booking?

Please refer to our cancellation policy for details.

Do you allow group bookings?

We accept bookings from families, couples, groups 16 – 18 if accompanied by an adult, Duke of Edinburgh and similar groups. We accept bookings from groups aged 18 and over by prior arrangement only. We cannot accept bookings from hen/stag parties or under 16s not accompanied by an adult. A refundable security deposit will be requested for larger groups of 3 tents or more.

Is it possible to book the whole site?

You are welcome to book the 4 timber lodges but you cannot book the whole campsite.

Do you offer weddings at your campsite?

We regret that we are unable to offer weddings or functions at our campsite.

Glamping

Can I bring my own wood for the hot tub or fire pit?

Guests are not permitted to bring their own wood or charcoal to use on the fire pit or the hot tub. We only use sustainably sourced timber which can be purchased from reception.

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are very welcome in our camping field but unfortunately, we do not allow dogs in our glamping accommodation.

What are the arrival and departure times?

Check-in is from 3:30pm, check out is at 10am. Reception is open until 6pm (9pm on Fridays during peak season) You can book an early check-in for arrival at 1:30pm for the additional cost of just £25, however, there is limited availability on each day so please get in touch if you would like to add this to your booking.

Do you allow smoking in the glamping accommodation?

Smoking is strictly prohibited in our glamping lodges. Any evidence of smoking will result in loss of your deposit.

What happens if we accidently break, damage or lose something?

Each lodge has an inventory of everything provided which you should check on arrival. Any items found broken, missing or damaged following your stay must be paid for in full. We reserve the right make a charge to the booking card, without prior notice, for any items not paid for on departure.

Do I need to pay a security deposit?

We require a £200 pre-authorisation security deposit one week before your check-in date. This is returned to you on check-out providing there are no losses or damages. It can sometimes take up to 5 days for this to show in your account. You will receive an automatic email requesting payment 1 week before your stay.

Do you clean our accommodation or change the bedding during our stay?

If you are staying for one week or longer you may request a clean and bedding change.

Should we clean our lodge before we leave?

Please leave your glamping lodge as you found it. We request that you wipe around the surfaces and sweep the floor before you leave. Cleaning equipment can be found in the kitchen. Any guests who leave their accommodation in a mess will be charged £25 for additional cleaning.

What cooking facilities are provided?

The lodges have a fully equipped kitchen with a hob, oven, fridge and microwave. All cooking equipment is provided so you only need to bring food.

Can we BBQ?

Outside, the fire pit can be used for grilling and barbequing, it also contains a built in pizza oven.

Is there a noise limit?

We would ask that you are considerate towards other guests on the site and that music is kept to a reasonable volume. Quiet time is from 10:30pm until 7am, we ask that voices are kept low between these times and music is turned off by 9pm.

How many people can the accommodation sleep?

The lodges can sleep up to 6 people, although we recommend no more than 4 adults. There is a double bed, 2 single beds and a double sofa bed.

Camping

Is there a minimum number of nights required for my stay?

Mid-summer weekends (from June to September) are a minimum 2-night stay. All bank holiday weekends are a minimum 3-night stay.

How do I ensure I can pitch with my friends or family?

If you want to book 2 or more pitches together please call 01756 720655 or send an email to info@howgill-lodge.co.uk and we will try our best to allocate your pitches together.

Do you offer electric hook up?

We have electric hook up with a 10amp supply. You will need to bring a 15 metre cable with a male IP44 rated site socket plug.

Do you allow dogs?

We are proud to be a dog-friendly campsite and we welcome obedient dogs; they must be kept on a lead at all times while on-site and should never be left unattended. We have a large dog walking field where they can run free. Please ensure you clean up immediately after your dog, bins are located around the site.

Am I allowed to bring my own bbq or fire pit?

You can bring your own bbq or fire pit, but it must be raised off the ground so that it does not burn the grass Disposable bbq’s should be placed on a stand which can be borrowed from reception with a £10 deposit. Open fires are not allowed under any circumstances. Please be aware that if you burn the grass, you will be charged £20 for its repair.

Can I hire a fire pit when I arrive?

Yes, you can hire a fire basket (which comes complete with logs and kindling) from reception. Extra bags of logs can be purchased from reception if needed. When hiring a fire pit do not empty hot ash into the rubbish bins, there is metal ash bins provided in the bin store.

Is there somewhere I can charge my phone?

We can charge your phone at reception free of charge.

What are your arrival and departure times?

You may check in from 1pm – 6:00pm (up to 9pm on Fridays). If you are unable to make these times, please let us know in advance. Departure time is at 12:00pm.

What are the regulations regarding noise?

We ask that you are considerate to your neighbours at all times. Our quiet time is from 10:30pm to 7:00am. No vehicle movements are permitted during these times and music needs to be turned off by 9.00pm. Please note that this a family campsite, excessive noise will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave.

Can I play music?

You are welcome to play music, but music players/radios must be kept to a reasonable volume at all times and switched off by 9:00pm.

Can I bring an electric heater?

We do not allow electric heating in tents or awnings as there is insufficient electric supply to support this and it will cause the electricity to trip out on the whole site.

Can I bring an electric generator?

We do not allow generators on the site due to the noise they create. We do offer electric hook up camping pitches.
